Come LARP with us!
🔥 Basic LARP Rules (Beginner-Friendly)
These rules can apply to most LARP settings and can be adjusted for your world.
1. Safety First
-
No real violence. Combat must be simulated with soft (foam or latex) weapons.
-
“Hold” call: Anyone can yell “HOLD” to stop the game if someone is hurt or in danger.
-
Safe zones: No fighting near fire, stairs, or sharp objects.
-
Respect personal boundaries at all times.
2. Combat Rules
-
Weapons must be checked for safety.
-
Declare hits honestly: If you're hit in a vital area (torso, head*), you take damage.
-
Use hit points (HP) system (e.g., 5 HP per player).
-
Optional: Add armor, magic, ranged weapons with their own damage rules.
3. Roleplay
-
Stay in character during the game.
-
Speak and act as your character would.
-
Use a signal (e.g., a hand sign or keyword like “Off Game”) when speaking out of character.
4. Abilities & Classes (Optional for more advanced LARP)
-
Assign classes like Warrior, Mage, Healer, Rogue.
-
Give each class a few powers (e.g., Mage can “cast freeze,” Warrior can “block” one hit per round).
-
Abilities should have cooldowns or limits to keep it fair.
5. Game Master (GM)
-
Someone should act as the storyteller or judge to guide the game, settle disputes, and control the plot/world.
🛡️ How to Create Your Own LARP Clan
A clan is like a faction, guild, or team within the game.
1. Choose a Clan Theme or Style
Pick a strong concept:
-
Fantasy: Elf warriors, vampire coven, nature druids
-
Post-apocalyptic: Raider gang, tech scavengers, bunker dwellers
-
Sci-fi: Alien syndicate, space pirates, mech squad
2. Create a Clan Name & Symbol
-
Choose a unique name (e.g., The Iron Fang, Crimson Flame Brotherhood).
-
Design a crest, logo, or color scheme members can wear.
-
Make flags, armbands, or patches to show off your clan's identity.
3. Write a Clan Backstory
A short paragraph explaining:
-
Where your clan came from
-
What they believe or fight for
-
What makes them different from other clans
Example:
The Crimson Flame Brotherhood is a secretive warrior cult devoted to fire magic and vengeance. They roam the forests, hunting undead and guarding lost knowledge.
4. Set Clan Rules or Code
-
Create a simple code of conduct (e.g., honor first, never betray allies).
-
Decide how people join: invitation, challenge, task?
5. Recruit Members
-
Invite friends or other players in-game.
-
Offer clan perks: shared gear, secrets, training, or storylines.
-
Create ranks or roles (Leader, Captain, Scout, etc.).
🎭 Example: A Simple LARP Clan
Name: The Shadow Blades
Theme: Stealthy rogue assassins for hire
Symbol: Black dagger on a red field
Rules: Never kill for free, always leave a calling card
Roles: Leader, Spy, Blade Master, Informant
Recruitment: Pass a stealth test and swear loyalty to the leader
About LARP!
LARP, or Live Action Role-Playing, is a form of role-playing game where participants physically portray their characters. Players dress in costume, follow a storyline, and act out their characters' actions in real time, often in immersive settings like forests, castles, or custom-built environments. It blends improvisational acting, game mechanics, and sometimes combat simulation using safe, foam-based weapons. There are many types of LARP, ranging from fantasy and sci-fi to historical reenactment and horror. Some LARPs are competitive, while others focus more on storytelling and character development. Rules can vary widely between different LARP communities or events. LARP is popular worldwide, and events can last from a few hours to several days. It offers participants a chance to escape everyday life, explore creativity, and connect with others through collaborative storytelling.
